Location of an avalanche that skiers remote triggered on Friday 3/4 near Cooke City, SE aspect at 8600' elevation.
Observed a lot of wet loose activity from the past few day’s warm spell while guiding in Bacon Rind today. Nothing super noteworthy avalanche-wise as far as today’s conditions go, but holy hell is the skiing bad down there. Robust MF crust on all aspects, I’m anticipating the classic crust/facet combo to develop shortly so that might be a concern once we get more snow soon, or dare I say IF we get more snow…
Some spots of dry loose activity on east facing slopes where the melt freeze crust was bullet proof. Higher in the basin the crust wasn't as thick but still supported our weight. No propagation in our tests. ECTN 13 15cm below surface with 10cm of new snow and Q3 shear quality on shovel shear test and compression test. Skied fat maid
Other than that lots of old activity from wet loose and one broken cornice from Arden Peak.
